The original version of this design was an experiment in using tape to block off areas on a canvas before creating the design with watercolor markers. I didn't really like it and felt dissatisfied every time I saw it. Even though it was an experiment, it felt like a failure.
A few months passed, and I decided to find a way to improve it in a way that spoke to me. After considering a few ideas, I decided to cover all the blocks and lines with watercolor paint. The end result was the first piece of art I was proud of.
Creating art has taught me many lessons. This piece in particular helped me to embrace what appeared to be failure and use it to create something beyond what I originally imagined was possible.
Goes right along with this quote: "Failure is the information you need to get where you're going."
- Rick Rubin in "The Creative Act: A Way of Being"
