In 2024, Hurricane Helene swept through NC, leaving damage and destruction never seen before throughout the state. Though I was safe and dry many miles away from the storm and experienced no property damage whatsoever, I was deeply affected by the damage done in my home state.
At the time, so many thoughts and emotions were swirling in my head and heart. Feeling helpless and unsure how to process the experience, I drew "Overcoming the Storm." The intention and feeling I wanted to convey with this piece was the hope I was trying to connect with. I wanted to express my belief that despite the hugeness of the storm and its impact on all affected by it, light was emerging from behind it and could not be silenced.
After the hurricane (and other disasters), I donated to a few different charities. However, I always wanted to do something special to give back that involved this piece of art. Finally, a year later, I'm excited to release Overcoming the Storm.
For every item sold with this design, I will contribute 10% of the profit to the NC Disaster Relief Fund, which is overseen by the United Way.
No one can do it all - or do everything for everyone. But we can all do something to help someone. Let's become the "I" of the hurricane - and offer a moment of peace and comfort in the midst of someone's stormy time.
